The Rams beat the Bucs off a strong performance by the defense as they forced 4 INTs and a fumble. The offense showed up at the beginning of the 3rd quarter and then disappeared for the remainder of the game. The score looks like the Rams dominated the Bucs, but it’s not completely the case. The core of the victory came down to two things:
1. The Rams defense made three 4th down stops (2 of which were goal line stands) erasing a possible 17 points.
2. Bucs play calling in these 4th down situations. Had the Bucs opted to kick field goals instead of going for it on 4th down, they would have had 9 more points bring the score to 28-22. This would have been the score with more than 2 minutes remaining. The game would have had a completely different feel and since the Rams offense had totally checked out by this time, the Bucs would have had an opportunity at engineering a game winning final drive.
