Redskins release Choice; activate rookie Evan Royster

The Redskins have placed running back Tashard Choice on waivers, Rick Maese of The Washington Post reports.

Claimed off waivers from the Cowboys earlier this month, Choice sat out the first two games with the Redskins with a hamstring injury before carrying the ball six times for seven yards and catching one pass for two yards against the Cowboys last Sunday.

Replacing Choice on the active roster is rookie running back Evan Royster, a 2011 sixth-round pick out of Penn State who ran for 110 yards and one touchdown with two receptions for 18 yards in four preseason games.

Other news: The Redskins have signed running back Tristan Davis to the practice squad.
