Various reports are coming in that the Redskins have signed tight end Dominique Byrd, a third year pro out of the University of Southern California.
Byrd was last on the roster of the Seattle Seahawks in 2011, playing in only one game, but did not record any receptions. After being drafted in the 3rd round of the 2006 draft by the St. Louis Rams, Byrd was out of the NFL just two seasons later. He has a grand total of six receptions for 83 yards and one touchdown over his four year NFL career (he was out of football in 2008).
Ironically, Byrd was the predecessor at the tight end position to current Redskins tight end Fred Davis, when the two were at USC. Byrd now finds himself as Davis’ backup, making the team thanks to a roster spot being opened up after the Redskins placed tight end Chris Cooley on injured reserve.
