Titans QB Young Cries He Wants to be Traded if Not the Starter

For whatever reason, Titans backup QB Vince Young has suddenly decided that he no longer wants to be a part of the Titans organization. The one-time rookie of the year announced to a local TV station that if he is not the starter in 2009, he wants the team to trade him.

“I definitely want to get back out there playing ball and picking up where I left off, winning games and having a good time with my teammates and with the fans,” Young told WMAR-TV, an ABC affiliate. “At the same time, if them guys don’t want me to be in there, it’s time for me to make a career change for myself. Because the fact is I’m ready to play ball. If they’re not ready for me to play ball, then somebody is.”

Young was the number three pick in the 2006 NFL draft, and had a great rookie season, winning the starting job and throwing for 2,199 yards, 12 TDs and 13 interceptions en route to NFL Rookie of the Year honors. After that rookie year, things fell apart. His passing performance went backwards, when he threw for 2,546 yards and 9 TDs, with 17 interceptions.

He started the opener last season, but was booed after his second pick, and was relieved by Kerry Collins, who never lost the starting job, taking the Titans to a 13-3 record and home field advantage in the AFC before losing to the Ravens in the divisional playoff game.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher says that Collins is going to be the starter in 2009, meaning that if Young gets his wish, he’ll be gone. On the other hand, the Titans have said that Young will be the QB of the future, and him coming out and crying about wanting to be traded is the wrong move at the wrong time.
