Twitter, the hot social networking tool, has become the hot new weapon for contract negotiations, especially for New York Jets running backs. Agents for both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are “tweeting” the negotiation’s progress, or lack there of, much to the chagrin of Mike Tannenbaum who firmly believes in keeping contract negotiations under wraps.
Washington’s agent, Alvin Keels, is tweeting his way into Tannenbaum’s dog house…
“I think the Jets are a little pissed at me right now! Oh well…its part of the business”

“I want to get my client Leon Washington back into the off-season program. Its a business however and that’s what we will need 2 address”

Being so nonchalant and public about the negotiations shows how disrespectful an agent Keels is. He’s been a thorn in Tannenbaum’s side ever since the LaMont Jordan contract negotiations a few years ago which resulted in Jordan fleeing NY for Oakland. What was Leon thinking when he fired his former agent for this “tweeter”.
I’m sure every Jet fan agrees that Leon deserves a new contract. His 2,337 all purpose yards speak for themselves. He’s the guy the Jets look to when they need a big play. He’s the guy who lit up the field when Brett Favre was fizzling. He’s the guy the Jets need in the backfield when their rookie QB is under center this season. But will he be the guy who gets “tweeted” out of what he really deserves? I hope not or else I’ll have to get a new jersey for game day.
