A few things have happened recently that wont necessarily generate a ton of attention, but we thought we’d point them out.
1. LEROY HILL RE-SIGNS: If you’ve been reading over the last six days, you’ll have noticed that I was really hoping the Vikings would be able to make a play for Hill. It is not too often that a 26 year old linebacker of that skill comes onto the free market, so naturally when the Seahawks rescinded his franchise tag after drafting Aaron Curry, I was hopeful that the Vikings would use some of that cap space. Apparently, however, the Seahawks were just wanting to clear some cap space knowing that they were close enough to a deal with Hill that he wasn’t going to go anywhere else. They signed him on Thursday to a six year, $38 million deal. The Seahawks now have one of the best linebacker groups in the NFL.
2. SAINTS WILL NOT GO TO L.A.: Many Vikes fans feel that if another team gets moved to Los Angeles soon, then the Vikings will be that much more likely to stay in Minnesota. Well, the Saints were long considered a team that were on the move. However, on Thursday, it was announced that the Saints have reached an agreement with the City of New Orleans and will be staying there until at least 2025. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Vikings could soon arrive at a similar deal with Minneapolis?
3. PERCY TO FACE DRUG TESTS: The Star Tribune reports that Percy Harvin is at stage one of the NFL’s substance abuse program. Due to the fact that Harvin tested positive at the NFL Combine for marijuana, he will now be subject to random tests at any point within the next 90 days. If he tests positive again then he will be fined, and the public will not know about it, and Harvin will enter stage two of the program. If he tested positive again, then Harvin could face an even heftier fine, and also up to a four game suspension. Here’s hoping that Percy can avoid troubles in the next 90 days, and give us fans something a little more positive to speculate about, like seeing him play on opening weekend.
