Bears Coach Lovie Smith Says Kyle Orton the Starting QB

There has been plenty of talk about the Bears looking at their options at quarterback in 2009, with names like Jeff Garcia and others popping up. Lovie Smith put most of, if not all of that talk to rest on Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indy as he said that Kyle Orton will be the starter when the 09 season starts. Here is the tidbit about what Smith said on

Bears coach Lovie Smith began his press conference by making clear that Kyle Orton is his guy at quarterback. If there were any questions as to that being the case, Smith quashed them immediately. “I’m a big Kyle Orton fan. I like him leading our football team. He’ll do that this coming season,” said Smith. “Of course you’re always trying to add different pieces to the mix, but Kyle Orton will be leading our football team this season.”

Orton last season in 15 games threw for 18 touchdowns and 12 picks as he put up a QB rating of 79.6.

This will be an interesting season for da Bears. I’m sure what Orton will be able to bring to the table but it will be fun to watch.
