The Process of Finding a New Coach Continues for the Skins

The Redskins are going through more head coaching candidates before owner Dan Snyder makes his choice to replace Joe Gibbs. There are reports that in addition to interviewing Ron Meeks, the defensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts a second time, Snyder might be considering former coach of the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions, Steve Mariucci. Offensive lineman Randy Thomas missed most of this past season with injuries.

Thomas says he’s glad Joe Bugel is returning to coach the blockers. Bugel was wooed out of retirement by Gibbs when he came aboard several years ago. Running backs coach Earnest Byner is said to be talking to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers about going to Florida to coach their backs. Recently released coordinators Gregg Williams and Al Saunders appear ticketed toward new jobs.

The “Washington Post” reports that Williams will interview today for the defensive coordinator position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. And, Al Saunders is said to have cut a deal in principle with the St. Louis Rams to run their offense, as he did before heading to Kansas City quite a few years ago.
