Vinny Back at Practice; Likely to Start Sunday at Home

Vinny with Steve Smith

All signs are pointing to 44-year-old Vinny Testaverde being back under center this Sunday when the Carolina Panthers take on the Atlanta Falcons in a NFC South matchup in Charlotte.  Vinny returned to practice today while former starter David Carr, who was sacked seven times Sunday in Tennessee, sat out the practice with a concussion he suffered late in the 20-7 loss.  Testaverde missed Sunday’s game with a right Achilles’ tendon injury.  Today he took most of the first team snaps while rookie Matt Moore served as the backup.

Coach John Fox was not in any mood to name Vinny as the starter for Sunday, but based on how poorly Carr has played, as well as his current condition, it looks evident that Testaverde will start.  Playing in five games this season Carr has a QB rating of 65.7 and has thrown for 540 yards with three TD’s and three picks.  He has also been sacked 12 times in 114 pass attempts.  In two games Vinny has thrown for 288 yards with 1 TD and 1 pick.  He has a QB rating of 73.5.
