Week 17 Will Be the Last For Chan Gailey and Norv Turner With Their Teams

Given all the buzz, it’s not really a prediction that Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey and San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner will be gone, as much as it is a reality. The Buffalo News is hearing that neither Gailey nor GM Buddy Nix will return. The 13-year postseason drought for the Bills is the longest in the NFL. Gailey, who turns 61 next Saturday, has been 15-32 as Bills head coach.

If Norv Turner and GM A.J. Smith are both gone, it will be hard not to put some blame on quarterback Philip Rivers. His 47 turnovers since the start of the 2011 season are second-most in the NFL behind New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez. Turner , missing the playoffs three consecutive seasons. The Chargers made the playoffs each of Turner’s first three seasons with the team, going all the way to the AFC Championship Game in his first season. Turner has been 55-40 in his tenure with the Chargers, and 3-3 in the postseason.

After Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur, Gailey and Turner, I believe the most likely to go are Kansas City Chiefs HC Romeo Crennel, Jacksonville Jaguars HC Mike Mularkey, Carolina Panthers HC Ron Rivera, Philadelphia Eagles HC Andy Reid, Arizona Cardinals HC Ken Whisenhunt, Detroit Lions HC Jim Schwartz, and Tennessee Titans HC Mike Munchak, in that order. If the Chicago Bears fail to make the postseason, head coach Lovie Smith moves ahead of Whisenhunt on that list.

My predictions for the day:
Bills>Jets (Sanchez is 6-1 against the Bills, but I expect the Bills to fight hard for Gailey)
Texans>Colts (Chuck Pagano’s first game back on the sideline)
Vikings>Packers (toughest game to pick)
Chargers>Raiders (Norv Bowl 2012 Part 2)
49ers>Cardinals (lock of the week)
