2012 Division III NCAA Championship Preview: Mount Union vs. St. Thomas

Before the FBS bowl games start to take over cities, stadiums and televisions across the country, FCS, Div. II and Div. III have their championship games.

At 7 PM ET Friday on ESPNU, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl XL will feature 14-0 Mount Union in its 8th consecutive Division III Championship in a showdown with the 14-0 St. Thomas Tommies in their first ever Championship.

This is the 16th overall appearance for the Mount Union Purple Raiders, and this is the 20th time in 40 Stagg Bowls that the game will be played in Salem, Virginia.

St. Thomas recently just won an NCAA volleyball championship three weeks ago.

Mount Union has yielded some very recognizable wide receivers currently excelling in the NFL: The Jaguars’ Cecil Shorts (out with injury Sunday), and the Redskins’ Pierre Garçon. 5’11m 190-lb. WR Jasper Collins is projected as about a 7th-round draft pick. St. Thomas is not considered to have any NFL draft prospects, but could have some who sign as undrafted free agents.
