The banged up Steelers WR core may get a boost this week, as the team is going to give a physical Tuesday to former first-round pick Plaxico Burress.
ESPN broke the news that Burress made his way to Pittsburgh today to visit with the team Tuesday.
Last season with the Jets, Burress made 45 grabs with 8 touchdowns, but was a pass catcher without a team this season, getting a few feelers from teams, but never getting a physical or deal done.
Till now.
The Steelers are already without starting WR Antonio Brown, and also they lost WR Jerricho Cotchery late in Sunday’s loss with an injury. Burress could give the unit a lift as they also are without starting QB Ben Roethlisberger, and will go with 3rd string QB Charlie Batch Sunday in Cleveland.
Burress missed the 2009 and 2010 seasons after spending nearly two years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm.
The Steelers took Burress with the 8th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, and after leaving the Steelers after the 2004 season, inked a deal and won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2007.
