Jets, Vikings and Lions Turn Down Terrell Owens, Would Rather Stay Mediocre

Kellen Winslow. Terrell Owens. Mike Sims-Walker. T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Plaxico Burress. Chad Johnson. These are all players a team should consider signing if their wide receivers and/or tight ends were going to miss an extended period of time. The Jets, Vikings, and Lions are all not interested, despite the Jets’ offense being historically awful, despite the Vikings being dismantled by broadcasters and not getting much wide receiver separation vs. opposing secondaries, and despite the Lions’ top receiver Calvin Johnson calling out his teammates.

In the Lions’ defense, Titus Young may have turned the corner and they have enough between Ryan Broyles and their tight ends that they could decline the services of free agents.

The Jets offense has put on a clinic on inefficiency, only scoring two offensive TDs in an 11-quarter span.

I don’t believe that pursuing a big name would mean insuring that player a big role to continue as the injured players return. I also know it’s not easy to add someone who doesn’t know your team’s playbook.

T.O.’s ability to get separation, make big plays, and dictate safety coverage would open up the secondary. His low asking price removes any risk.

Head coach Rex Ryan has stated regarding Owens, “Never say never.” Privately, the Jets are saying “never”. ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that the Jets aren’t interested in Owens.

If the Jets and Vikings don’t make moves at wideout, us fans (the Vikings are my second-favorite team behind the Ravens) will feel cheated. Maybe Jarius Wright’s breakout game will provide a more complete receiving corps for the Vikings, but I don’t see that go-up-there-and-get-it receiver. Time will tell.

If your passing offense isn’t working, don’t you owe it to your fans to give Terrell Owens a tryout?

If something’s not working, resort to ANYTHING in an attempt to FIX IT! Does Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum understand that Terrell Owens could save his job?

Hit “Like” or the Facebook share button if you think it’s embarrassing that the Jets aren’t trying other options after what has happened the last eight games.
