Week eight starts with a NFC matchup between the Bucs and the Vikings, one team riding high at 5-2 while the other is coming off a tough last second loss at 2-4.
The Vikings topped the Cards last week, with a defense that is quickly becoming one of the better ones in the NFC. They slammed John Skelton, getting to him with seven sacks and a defensive score to boot.
They will look to lower the boom on Josh Freeman, who last week vs the Saints came close to leading them back to a huge comeback, hitting Mike Williams with no time remaining on a play that would have tied the game.
The play though was no good as it was ruled that Williams went out of bounds in the end zone, thus he wasn’t allowed to come back in and make the catch.
Freeman threw for 420 yards and three scores, and will look to stay upright while challenging the Vikings secondary. Dough Martin has been solid at RB for Tampa, but if the Bucs want to win, they will need the arm of Freeman to do it.
Minnesota’s QB on the other hand has been struggling, as Christian Ponder started the season playing well, but has been terrible the past few weeks.
Against the Cardinals, he went 8 for 17 for 58 yards and two interceptions, numbers that the Vikings can’t afford if they want to keep winning in the tough NFC North.
Percy Harvin has been having an excellent season, and Adrian Peterson has looked solid since his injury last December, but Ponder is the weak spot on this offense right now, and needs to get back to the form of early September.
The Bucs will look to force Ponder into mistakes, but he will lean on Peterson to take the pressure off, and look for a couple costly Bucs turnovers to decide this one going the way of the Vikings.
