NFL, Ref’s union making progress

According to the NFL Referees Association, they and the National Football League have come to an agreement regarding backup crews. NFL.com was the first to report this development.

A source familiar with the situation says that the team owners have become more proactive in this matter, as opposed to the past.

While the 21 backup officials will not actually become members of the NFLRA, they will enter a developmental program to be trained to become bona-fide NFL officials.

They will work with NFL crews, but will not actually work games and won’t be eleigible to be subbed out.
