Aaron Hernandez Out Up To 6 Weeks

Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez was injured in the shocking 20-18 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Multiple sources are calling it a high ankle sprain with up to a 6-week recovery time.

None of the back-ups to Gronkowski got any catches, but Michael Hoomanawanui has experience in the offense. Visanthe Schiancoe is on short-term IR, and Jake Ballard is on the PUP list.

The more puzzling issue for the Patriots offense is why it took a Hernandez injury for the Patriots to start using WR Wes Welker in the offense. Julian Edelman started in his place. It’s one thing to send a message to a disgruntled player, but – if the Patriots don’t want to use Welker unless there’s an injury – you think they could get some crucial pass rush or secondary help back for Welker in a trade.
