Patriots Try Out Kellen Winslow

The New England Patriots worked out free agent TE Kellen Winslow. Winslow, fellow former ‘Cane Jeremy Shockey and Chris Cooley headline the vested vets at tight end who will likely have a job by week 2, as their salary would not be guaranteed after week 1.

The Pats have former Giants TE Jake Ballard on the PUP list, former Giants and Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe, and 2010 draft picks at tight end Rob Gronkowksi and Aaron Hernandez. In 14 games last season, Ballard caught 604 yards and 4 TDs. Hernandez, Gronkowski, Shiancoe and Winslow have each had at least 900 yards or 9 TDs (or both) in a seasonĀ  (Gronkowski set the NFL record for TE’s with 17 last season).

UPDATE! The Patriots also worked out QB Mike Kafka, an ex-Eagles QB that is sure to end up on a team’s roster this year (he doesn’t have practice squad eligibility).
