Cowboys Get Insurance With Complete TE Colin Cochart, Cut Stephen McGee

Cowboys TE Jason Witten has returned to practice, but it’s doubtful he will risk it and go on Thursday. The Cowboys were able to add another tight end to the 53, former Bengal Colin Cochart, claiming him over the waiver wire.

Cochart was the only undrafted free agent to make the Cincinnati week 1 roster last season, played in 10 games, caught 5 passes for 44 yards and had 1 TD vs. Pittsburgh. He’s considered a stout blocker.

At South Dakota State, he was a runner-up all-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection in 2008 and 2009, and wound up first-team in 2010. He led the Jackrabbits in TD catches with 4 in 2010, with 31 overall catches for 338. He has a Twitter account.

The inevitable happened and the Cowboys cut Stephen McGee to make room for him. They will go into the season with just two QB’s and will likely add another to the practice squad, but I hear it won’t be Rudy Carpenter.
