The Steelers activated Rashard Mendenhall from the physically unable to perform list Friday, but a league source told Adam Schefter of ESPN that the running back is not expected to be ready for the team’s regular-season opener or possibly even in September. – ESPN
The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Friday that wide receiver Jordan Shipley has been placed on waivers. A third-round pick (No. 84 overall) out of Texas in 2010, Shipley had an impressive rookie season, but hadn’t done much since then. – NFL.com
Vince Young‘s attorney disputes his client owes a loan company nearly $1.7 million, and questions whether the Buffalo Bills quarterback was even aware a loan was taken out in his name. – CBSSports
Olympian Jeff Demps will sign a contract to play for the New England Patriots, according one of Demps agents, Nohemy Baltodano. Demps rushed for 2,470 career yards and 23 touchdowns with the Florida Gators but went undrafted in April when he chose to focus on his Olympic career. – NFL.com
