It may not be the title bout people envisioned months ago, as Team USA’s Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose are out with injury, along with Spain’s Marc Gasol (playing with shoulder and knee injuries), Juan-Carlos Navarro (playing through plantar fasciitis), Rudy Fernandez and Ricky Rubio are all injured. However, Team USA vs. Spain should be a great Olympic basketball final match-up at 10 AM ET on NBC. You can also see the game at NBC Olympics.com. Team USA beat Spain in 2008 in the Gold Medal game last year.
It is going to be Mike Kryzewski’s final game coaching Team USA, ending a 7-year run. Team USA chairman Brian Colangelo told the AP that “It goes beyond what has happened on the floor. He’s been so important to me in everything we’ve done in building the infrastructure and philosophy and standards – all of it. His legacy goes beyond the record on the court. We’re 52-1, I guess since this all began, and hopefully we’ll be 53-1 after tomorrow. That’s a legacy in itself.” When asked if he could convince Coach K to stay: “Chances are not. But we’ll have to have that conversation on an official basis. He’s said this is it, and I’ll respect his choice. But knowing me as I know me, I’ll have that conversation and we’ll see.”
Spain poses a lot of size against a Team USA group that started work together July 5th and only has one center, 7’1″ Tyson Chandler.
Lebron has dedicated this run to our soldiers who fight for our freedom. Kryzewski used to coach at West Point.
