Redskins @ Bills Preview

Crazy to think that this is the only Thursday game with no new coordinators. Ravens @ Falcons will mark the debuts of a new Falcons OC (Dirk Koetter) and new Falcons and Ravens DC’s (Mike Nolan and Dean Pees). Saints @ Patriots will feature new old OC Josh McDaniels. Steelers @ Eagles includes new Pittsburgh OC Todd Haley. Packers @ Chargers will feature new Packers OC Tom Clements (McCarthy keeps his play-calling role) and new San Diego DC John Pagano, and Mike Tice will make his debut as OC of the Bears when they take on the Broncos at Soldier Field.

Reskins @ Bills will feature the debuts of Washington QB Robert Griffin III and Buffalo CB Stephon Gilmore. Griffin has had a few nicks in his game exposed and camp, and that is what you want with a rookie quarterback. The more they give this smart signal-caller new challenges, the more he will respond and be ready to lead his team to the postseason. Ironically, another rookie on the team – Kirk Cousins – is going to end up with more preseason snaps at QB (and with some great second and third string receivers, especially when a few of them get healthy.)

Feelin’ The Heat
Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan.
The right time to sync up a quarterback and coach is early in their career. While I have no doubt that the Redskins will be competitive this year and that I would keep Shanahan in that instance, Daniel Snyder may want to see a playoff appearance.

Bills WR Donald Jones and RB CJ Spiller. These guys will be needed to diversify a Bills offense that doesn’t have as many intriguing playmakers as the Patriots or even the Jets.
