Ex-Jet Jim Leonhard Signs With Broncos

Former Bills, Ravens and Jets safety Jim Leonhard, who claims he’s healed from his knee injuries, has been signed by the Denver Broncos to play FS.

Leonhard joins a long tradition of older free safeties brought to Denver (former Bucs SS John Lynch in 2004; Brian Dawkins in 2009, though he switched to SS in 2010).

Leonhard had previously worked out for the Bills this off-season, and reportedly looked like he was in his prime. Leonhard has never returned a punt for a TD, but has twice averaged over 11 a return (11.6 as a Raven in 2008, 11.3 as a Jet in 2010). In 94 games, including 60 starts, Leonhard has 6 INT (1 returned 35 yards for a TD), 25 passes defensed and 3.5 sacks.

The acquisition was first announced on John Elway’s Twitter.
