NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reports that Jake Locker has the inside track to be the starter for the Titans.
This isn’t surprising, given his knack for making plays shown in his insertions into the lineup last season.
While watching Nate Washington make his case in April against the Titans signing Peyton Manning, I got a strong indication of a Locker starting nod when I saw Nate equate Locker to Matt Hasselback as both QB’s they could win with. If they are both QB’s they can win with, then it’s obvious Locker should probably start since he’s far from peaking while Hasselbeck is 36.
With the strides Chris Johnson and Nate Washington have made this offseason, with new weapon Kendall Wright and with a defense that looks like it will need the offense to keep scoring, Locker would be a great fantasy pick. He picks up quite a bit of rushing yards as well, likely totaling over 550 in a full season.
Matt would likely retire, or be traded for a 7th rounder (or get cut). I don’t think he wants to be a back-up in Tennessee and I don’t think the Titans want to pay him the money due to be a back-up.
