Jason Taylor Joins ESPN

Former Dolphins, Redskins and Jets DE Jason Taylor will be doing analysis for ESPN this fall, after agreeing to a deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ricky Williams gets a deal, but neither of them have shown to be incredibly engaging or insightful. Taylor has done appearances for CBS’ “NFL Today” and NFL Network. He finished his career with 139.5 sacks, good for 6th in NFL history. It took him 235 games. Kevin Greene, a Hall of Fame finalist this year after six years of eligibility, had 160 sacks in 228 games. LT had 132.5 in 184 games.

Fellow ESPN analyst Bill Parcells famously knocked Jason Taylor based on his appearance on “Dancing With The Stars”.

It would is not unprecedented to make an awkward hire. Spygate whistleblower Eric Mangini was hired in spite of the presence of Tedy Bruschi. Despite the fact that Tom Jackson once said “this team hates their coach” about Bill Belichick, Tedy was hired and seemed to turn every analysis into a love song for Belichick (until I stopped watching “Sportscenter” and “NFL Live”…and “NFL 32”). Jon Gruden notoriously deactivated WR Keyshawn Johnson for conduct detrimental to the team, and is now on ESPN with “Me-shawn”.

Of the prominent NFL players that have retired this off-season, Matt Light and Williams are the only ones who are yet to get some sort of TV deal. Matt’s engaging personality would make him a candidate for one, and the networks frequently hire ex-Patriots. He has said he wants to spend more time with his kids. Brian Dawkins has been on “NFL Total Access” lately, and Hines Ward will be on NBC soon.
