Seahawks free agent linebacker David Hawthorne is visiting the New Orleans Saints and has interest from the Detroit Lions.
Hawthorne is one of the most underrated and productive inside linebackers in the league coming off three straight 100+ tackles and filled the stat sheet with 2 sacks, 3 INT’s 6 PD’s , 1 FR, 7 tackles for loss, and a touchdown. He has officially averaged 112 tackles the past 3 seasons.
Pete Carroll and John Schneider have said that they want to take care of their own and have largely done that after locking up the top 2 priorities in Marshawn Lynch and Red Bryant. They are now likely focusing their attention on Hawthorne.
Losing their best linebacker would be devastating for the Seahawks. Not quite literally losing your entire rush defense if you let Red Bryant go to the Patriots devastating, but pretty damn close.
At least the caveat is that there are appealing replacements for the Seahawks available including former Lion Stephen Tulloch (another potential swap with the NFC North?), and the Falcons Curtis Lofton. Lofton finished fifth in the league with tackles (147) and similar to Hawthorne has led the Falcons in that category the past 3 seasons.
After a quiet first day the Seahawks activity on the open market has really picked up, stay tuned.
