Colt Brennan, who – with the help of June Jones and the Hawai’i receivers – put Warrior football on the map and made mincemeat of WAC defenses in a record-breaking run, has signed a contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Brennan’s playing style irked then Redskins head coach Jim Zorn, and the Riders will likely have to have a season similar to 2011 for him to see significant playing time (though the CFL is less stringent on sticking with 1 QB). That said, it will be interesting, as Colt is comfortable in the wide-open, pass first, 3-down CFL format.
Hawai’i’s receiving corps from Brennan’s time includes Ryan Grice-Mullen of the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos, Mike Washington of the AFL’s Pittsburgh Power, and Davone Bess of the Miami Dolphins, who was 5th in the NFL last season with an 11.9 average.
Another quarterback whose signing was announced today by the Roughriders was Drew Willy, who has spent time with the Ravens, Colts, Jets and Chargers since going undrafted in 2009.
The Roughriders’ top quarterback is still likely Darian Durant. The Roughriders were the losingest team in the league last year at 5-13.
