Peyton Manning Heading to the Redskins?

Mike Freeman of CBS Sports reports that “everyone” he talks to in the NFL believes Peyton Manning will become a Redskin if and when he becomes a free agent.  This comes on the heels of a weekend report from two people close to Manning saying “it is very likely” Manning will end up with the Redskins.

It is clear both the Redskins and the Dolphins will pursue Manning.  Redskins coach Mike Shanahan cannot afford another losing season if he wants to keep his job and for once the Redskins have plenty of salary cap room.  It is also believed that the Arizona Cardinals have interest but owner Bill Bidwill may balk at ponying up for Manning a year after the Cardinals paid dearly for the failed Kevin Kolb experiment.

One Response to “Peyton Manning Heading to the Redskins?”

hmmmmm…as Redskins fans we’re skeptical of any move involving high priced free agents. Although I’m old enough to remember the Super Bowl years, the past 20 years have been extremely disappointing and at times downright embarassing. Although we had a good draft last year, we still have a lot of wholes to fill on the O line, at receiver and in the secondary. I’m concerned that Manning is one hit away from a disasterous ending to what has been an incredible career. To be playoff / Superbowl competitive, I honestly don’t see how the Redskins can fill the numerous holes in this team in one offseason, especially at the all important offensive tackle position. But that said, if they do bring him here and draft a QB at with one of their picks, you couldn’t ask for a better mentor or team leader for that matter.
