Crazy Divisional Round Postseason Facts

7 of the 8 teams left have scored at least 27 points against at least one of the other remaining playoff teams earlier in the season. The Broncos are the only team that hasn’t done this.

The only defense still playing that was in the bottom 10 in sacks is the Packers defense (T-30th with 29).

The only defense still playing that was in the bottom 10 in rushing TDs allowed is the Giants (T-24th with 15). They were nowhere near #1 (the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with 26 allowed).

There are still a lot of record-breakers left in the playoffs: most yards passing in a season (Drew Brees, 5476), highest completion percentage in a season (Brees, 71.2%),  most TD passes in a season (Tom Brady, 50) most field goals made in a season (David Akers, 44).

The Packers, Giants and Patriots were bottom 10 in TD passes allowed.

Saints @ 49ers

The Saints have scored 31 or more points in five consecutive postseason games.

Drew Brees has won 4 playoff games. Alex Smith has never played in one.

Broncos @ Patriots

The Broncos were the only team to beat the Patriots in a 13-game postseason run between 2001-2006.

The Patriots are on an 8-game winning streak.

The Broncos have no 1000-yard receivers on their team, and no TEs or WRs who have hit 30 yet.  The Patriots have three guys who’ve caught at least 1327 yards in a season, and three WRs of at least 30 years of age.

Texans @ Ravens

Joe Flacco has won 4 playoff games, T.J. Yates 1.

The Ravens and Texans were the two top teams in QB rating allowed (68.8 and 69.0) and the Texans just held Andy Dalton to a 51.4 rating.

The Ravens are 18-1 in their most recent 19 games at M&T Bank Stadium. They are 10-1 – including 1-0 postseason – when Anquan Boldin catches at least 63 yards. They are 27-3 – including 1-0 postseason – when Ray Rice gets at least 18 carries.

If Hines Ward, Randy Moss and Terrell Owens are done, this match-up features the wideouts 5th and 6th on the active list for receptions: Anquan Boldin (707) and Andre Johnson (706), taken in the 2nd and 1st rounds of the 2003 Draft. The active leaders are Tony Gonzalez (1149), Reggie Wayne (862), Chad Ochocinco (766) and Donald Driver (763).

Giants @ Packers

Eli Manning threw for 293 more yards in 2011 than Peyton Manning has in any season, and 1 fewer INT compared to Manning’s best season.

The Giants (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011) and Packers (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011) have the longest-tenured active NFC head coaches to have made the playoffs more times than they’ve missed.
