Per Howard Balzer of 101 ESPN St. Louis, Jeff Fisher is on the verge of making his decision between the Rams and Dolphins and will choose St. Louis. Here’s the money quote from Mr. Balzer.
…according to sources familiar with the thinking of Jeff Fisher, have led the former Tennessee Titans coach, who has been weighing serious interest from the Miami Dolphins and the Rams this week, to be on the verge of choosing St. Louis as the next stop in his coaching career.
The decision is not final, and things can always change until a contract is signed, but despite the likelihood of leaving some money on the table in Miami, Fisher likes the potential on the Rams’ roster to turn things around relatively quickly.
Both Steven Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphins and Stan Kroenke, owner of the Rams have placed Fisher firmly at number 1 on their wish list. The owner that does not get Fisher will have to scramble for plan B very quickly.
One name in the Rams plan B “break only in case of emergency” box is Rob Chudzinski the offensive coordinator from Carolina who engineered a huge offensive rookie year for another number 1 overall QB in Cam Newton.
In other news, the Rams officially interviewed Ray Horton, defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals today. Horton fulfills the Rooney Rule, but does not seem to be a great fit in St. Louis. He run the 3-4 in Arizona and his squads have been solid, but unspectacular for years.
The Rams are also not interested in Mike Martz or Brian Billick as head coaches for their team. The lack of Martz is not surprising, but the Brian Billick was a record setting coordinator with the Vikings and lead the Ravens to the Super Bowl. Granted the Ravens were not lead by his offense, but a vaunted defense. Billick seems to be garnering very little interest around the league for a Super Bowl winning coach who is ready to get back into coaching.
