Today in Berea it was Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert’s turn to wrap up the 4-12 Browns season with a chat with the media.
The session lasted about an hour and 15 minutes, and right off the bat Holmgren was asked the question that every Browns fan wants to know, and that’s if Colt McCoy is going to be the future of the team in terms of moving forward as the QB.
“I think he can be, he could be. I’m not ready to say that yet,” Holmgren said. “You know what we did this season. He played and he did some very fine things and then he played young at times, not unlike his first year where he had four or five games or whatever. Was I pleased? Yeah, in a lot of the stuff he did. My opinion of Colt has not changed. I think he has a lot of intangibles.”
While it seemed through the tone of the presser Holmgren had a number of good things to say about McCoy, in the end, there’s no doubt he, along with everyone else have a lot of questions about if McCoy can lead the Browns to the next level.
“I’m not ready to anoint Colt yet. Have I changed my mind? No. Do I love him? Yes, I do. But I love Seneca Wallace and we have three good quarterbacks on our team right now,” Holmgren said. “Having said that, heck, we don’t know what is going to happen and I had that conversation with Colt as well.”
