Locker Cleanout Day Turns Ugly For New York, Staff Changes Could Happen Today

Today, Rex Ryan gave a speech to his team that was described by Rich Cimini (ESPN New York) as “scathing” and chemistry-oriented.

Jenny Vrentas of the Star-Ledger was at the locker room today. She mentioned that Santonio Holmes would not talk to the media, and was escorted by PR. She also mentioned that Eric Smith had been playing with a torn meniscus in his knee since the Redskins game.

Cimini also dropped these nuggets:

Rex was crying during the team speech. “Yeah, he was crying because he loves us,” LG Matt Slauson said. Slauson has been playing with an injury since last December, and will have an MRI on his shoulder tomorrow.

Changes have been made to the press conference for today at 3 PM ET. Now, GM Mike Tannenbaum will talking at the podium with Rex Ryan. This suggests changes. Many believe Brian Schottenheimer is going to be fired, and it’s already reported that he and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine are candidates for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job.

Darrelle Revis, visibly upset, uncharacteristically blew off the media.

Bart Scott made an obscene gesture to a photographer and said “Get that out of my (censored) face.” I mistakenly mentioned him retiring, when it turns out the source was suggesting he will be cut, due to an exorbitant salary next year. Conor Orr from the Star-Ledger added that Scott said “all I know is I got a guaranteed contract for $4 million”.
