Drew Brees set the NFL single season passing record on Monday Night, exceeding Dan Marino’s 1984 mark of 5,084 yards.
The Saints shattered the Falcons to clinch the NFC South, annihilating Atlanta 45-16 behind Brees’ 307 yards (5,087 for the season) and four touchdowns (41 TD’s).
The Saints are now 12-3 and host the Carolina Panthers on New Year’s Day.
Currently, New Orleans holds the #3 seed in the NFC for the Playoffs.
If the Saints beat Carolina and the 49ers lose in St. Louis on Sunday, they would earn the #2 seed and a first-round bye in the NFC Playoffs.
If the 49ers win or the Saints lose, New Orleans will remain the #3 seed due to San Francisco’s tiebreaker advantage based on best win percentage in conference games.
The Falcons are now 9-6 and host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on New Year’s Day.
A win and a Detroit Lions loss (beat Lions in Week 7, 23-16) in Green Bay on Sunday will give Atlanta the #5 seed in the NFC Playoffs.
A loss or a Lions win against the Packers will keep the Falcons at the #6 spot in the NFC.
As of right now, the Falcons would face the Saints again in New Orleans on Wild Card Weekend.
