Titans Top Jaguars 23-17 to Improve to 8-7

Matt Hasselbeck #8 of the Tennessee Titans throw a pass during the NFL game against the Jacksonville Jaguars

The playoff hopes of the Titans may be fading, but that didn’t stop another solid effort from QB Matt Hasselbeck and the team as they beat the Jaguars at home Christmas Eve afternoon 23-17.

Hasselbeck threw for 240 of his 350 yards in the first half, as the Titans snapped a two-game skid and finished this season 5-3 at home under first-year coach Mike Munchak. They head to Houston for the finale with a chance at their first winning record since 2008. They move to 8-7 with the win over the now 4-11 Jags.

Rob Bironas kicked three field goals, including a pair of 51-yarders, and Jamie Harper ran for a touchdown. Jared Cook had a 55-yard TD catch and finished with 169 yards receiving, a franchise high for a tight end.

Maurice Jones-Drew, the NFL’s rushing leader with 1,334 yards coming into the game, ran for 103 yards and a touchdown for the Jaguars. He has a career-high 1,437 yards this season.

Blaine Gabbert was harassed and had another tough day for the Jags. The rookie was just 21-for-42 for 198 yards with no TD’s and a pick. He ended the day with a QB rating of 53.5.
