Jahvid Best placed on IR

Sidelined the past five weeks with a concussion, the Lions have decided to place second-year running back Jahvid Best on season-ending injured reserve, Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com reports.

Best’s college career ended due to a concussion and the 2010 first-round pick out of Cal has suffered two concussions during the 2011 league year, prompting the club to be extra cautious with his health.

“From the outset, we have been appropriately cautious and have followed all medical protocol with respect to Jahvid’s injury,” Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Friday. “We look forward to his continued improvement and eventual return to the field.”
