Kyle Orton was waived by the Denver Broncos today. Disruption doesn’t seem to be an issue. They are 4-1 with Tim Tebow and John Fox has proclaimed that Brady Quinn is next to go in if Tebow implodes or gets hurt. Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said today: “Kyle is going to have more options in the NFL. He’ll get an opportunity to play somewhere else. We wish him the best of luck.”
Orton’s salary this season is $4.5 million, so, – if someone claims him – they will owe him $1.58 mil for final 6 games unless they, too, cut him.
The 7-3 Bears and 7-3 Texans are the only teams that have a need deep enough at back-up to make such a move. If they don’t claim him or sign him post-waivers, Bears rookie Nathan Enderle and Texans rookie T.J. Yates are next in line. NFL Network’s Jay Glazer says he hears the Bears or Chiefs or both will claim him. The Chiefs at 4-6 have waiver priority.
