Kevin Smith named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Lions running back Kevin Smith has been named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week, the team announced on Tuesday.

Smith had 16 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns, and four receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown, in the Lions’ 49-35 win over the Panthers on Sunday.

A 2008 third-round pick out of Central Florida, Smith had 1,856 yards and 12 touchdowns in 35 games over his first three seasons with the Lions, but injuries prevented the club from extending a qualifying offer to the restricted free agent in the offseason.

The Lions re-signed Smith earlier this month.
