Coaches realize one player can’t swoop in, cure the Packers’ pass-protection problems, keep Aaron Rodgers upright and fix unemployment all at once. But one day after his quarterback absorbed some painful shots from the Vikings, coach Mike McCarthy provided a nugget of optimism.
Left tackle Chad Clifton, who has been out since suffering a severe hamstring injury Oct. 9 at Atlanta, may now have a rough timetable. “I would have to say he’s not going to make it this week, Detroit would be a push and the Giants would probably be realistic if he stays on schedule,” McCarthy said. That date would be Dec. 4, as in three weeks from now. Until then, Marshall Newhouse remains the starter.
