The Lions have signed free agent punter Ben Graham, a league source confirmed on Tuesday.
Graham, 38, has punted for the New York Jets (2005-08), New Orleans Saints (2008) and Arizona Cardinals, where he averaged 37.9 yards on 200 punts, 78 of which were placed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. The Cardinals signed Dave Zastudil in the off-season, but Graham was brought in for one game last month when Zastudil was battling a knee injury.
Rookie Ryan Donahue beat out Nick Harris for the punting job during training camp and as averaged 35.6 yards on 49 punts. Donahue injured his quadriceps during last week’s practices, prompting the team to sign Robert Malone late last week. Malone was active on Sunday and had a gross average of 49 yards per punt, but Chicago Bears punt returner had three returns for 122 yards, including an 82-yard touchdown in their 37-13 win at Soldier Field.
Malone has been waived, but Donahue remains on the roster.
