George Johnson on IR; McCargo re-signed

The Buccaneers announced that defensive lineman George Johnson has been placed on injured reserve.

Johnson suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of the Buccaneers’ 37-9 loss to the Texans. Johnson had recorded the first two tackles of his NFL career prior to his injury.

Defensive tackle John McCargo has been re-signed to replace Johnson on the roster. The Buccaneers had signed McCargo last week only to release him when they were awarded defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth off waivers from the New England Patriots.

A 2006 first-round pick out of North Carolina State by the Bills, the 6-foot-2, 307-pound McCargo has 47 tackles and 2.5 quarterback sacks in 40 games over the last five seasons. McCargo had seven tackles and a quarterback sack in two preseason games with the Buccaneers in 2011.
