Cofield Says Redskins Won’t Win Again if They Don’t Play Better

Barry Cofield says things could get “historically ugly” if the Skins don’t start changing their ways. The veteran defensive tackle said Monday: “If we don’t play better, then there’s no reason to expect to win any games.”

The Redskins have lost five straight to drop to 3-6 ahead of next week’s game against the rival Cowboys. Cofield said “the ball’s just not going to bounce our way, and so it could very ugly. It could get historically ugly.”

Coach Mike Shanahan pulled a surprise on Sunday by starting Rex Grossman instead of John Beck at quarterback. It didn’t make much difference. Grossman threw two interceptions and the offense failed to score a touchdown in a 20-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
