Two fumbles and an interception was really the key to this game, giving the Niners good field position and points off the turnovers. Tim Hightower was by far the Skins best rushing threat and without him, the Skins have failed to put together any semblance of a run game. If John Beck is forced to throw the ball 47 times and Roy Helu leads the team in receptions then you know it was a rough day.
Defensively, I liked the pressure Washington was able to put on Smith for a majority of the game. They have kept this team within striking distance for most of the season but are always on the field for too long of stretches which leads to mistakes. It is now a toss up as to who should be at the helm. Grossman did struggle before he was benched, but Beck has proven to be a mirror image.
At this point, Grossman should be the starter for exactly the reasons why he isn’t – his tendencies to take chances. Beck is more of a conservative passer but the Skins have been in need of a risk taker. Those precious lucky conversions are at this point what can make the difference for the Redskins, especially with the Cowboys coming up in two weeks. If there was a week for Shanahan to make the switch back it is this week against Miami. Tashard Choice could finally be ready next week and looks as if he will actually be the best back left on this roster.
