That was a topsy-turvy game, but Eli put the E-L-I in elite as the Giants came back not once, but twice in the 4th quarter against the Pats, winning 24-20.
After a scoreless first half, the Giants got on the board first, with Lawrence Tynes hitting a 22 yard field goal. After a fumble recovery, Brandon Jacobs scored on a 10 yard touchdown run. The Pats answered with a field goal to make it 10-3 after the third.
The Pats started off the scoring in the 4th with a 5 yard Aaron Hernandez touchdown. They added a field goal soon after to make it 13-10. The first comeback started when Eli Manning hit Mario Manningham on a 10 yard pass to make it 17-13. But the Patriots weren’t done. They marched down the field and scored on a 14 yard Rob Gronkowski touchdown. With only 19 seconds left, and after a timely pass interference call, Eli hit Jake Ballard on a 1 yard pass to make it 24-20.
This is the type of game that can propel a team. The Giants did not play their best. But when it mattered most, Eli came through. He and Ballard made beautiful music. He hit Manningham for a touchdown. Cruz was big. This team was hurt, but they found a way. This is the type of encouraging win that makes you feel good about this team. They overcame adversity. Great teams win when they don’t play well. That’s exactly what the Giants did today. Huge win.
