Stopping New England

New England has a few high powered offensive weapons: Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Wes Welker, and of course Tom Brady. How do you stop this?

We’ll start with Welker. Welker is so good at controlling a game. He’s almost impossible to stop one on one. Webster will be on him, and it’s a tough assignment. I think that if you put a safety over the top, you lose effectiveness with the two tight ends. You have to trust Webster.

Hernandez and Gronkowski are very tough. Receivers in tight end bodies. They can stretch the seam. The safeties have to be huge. I think Jaicquan Williams is going to be asked to do a lot in coverage. Up the middle, the defense has to be solid. I think you have to have Phillips patrolling centerfield, use Rolle and Grant in a bump and run on them and hope for the best.

They key, really, is a good pass rush. The more you get at Brady, the harder it is for him to throw. Blitzing is going to be key. Send some pressure from the outside.

It’s going to be tough, but if the defense really can bring up the heat on Brady, as well as stay in the passing lanes, it could work
