The Chargers have placed defensive lineman Ogembi Nwagbuo on waivers, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
A 6-foot-4, 312-pound backup defensive end, Nwagbuo had three tackles in four games in 2011, and has 41 tackles, 1.5 quarterback sacks and two passes defensed in 31 games for the Chargers the last two-plus seasons. Nwagbuo has been inactive the last two weeks.
Acee previously tweeted that the Chargers are expected to sign free agent defensive end/linebacker Everette Brown, provided the former Carolina Panthers second-round pick out of Florida State passes his physical.
The Panthers traded their 2010 first-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers to move up in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft to select Brown, who had tallied 23 quarterback sacks during his four-year career at Florida State. In 28 games over two seasons in Carolina, including three starts, the 6-foot-1, 256-pound Brown has 47 tackles, six quarterback sacks and an interception before he was waived on September 4.
Since his release, Brown has been a popular player on the tryout circuit, working out for the New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins and New York Giants.
