Free agent fullback Reagan Maui’a has re-signed with the Cardinals, Andy Simms, Maui’a’s agent, announced on Twitter.
A 2007 sixth-round pick out of Hawaii by the Miami Dolphins, Maui’a started nine of 16 games as a rookie, carrying the ball four times for five yards with two receptions for five yards out of the backfield. Maui’a moved on to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2008 and went to training camp with the Cardinals in 2009, but did not make the 53-man roster.
Re-signed by the Cardinals in 2010, Maui’a started four of 15 games last season, catching two passes for 20 yards and recording five tackles on special teams. The Cardinals re-signed Maui’a to a two-year, $1.425 million contract in July, but he was released in September as the team kept 2011 fifth-round pick Anthony Sherman for their fullback roster spot.
Sherman injured his ankle in Sunday’s 30-27 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Maui’a takes the roster spot of defensive end Ronald Talley, who was placed on waivers on Monday.
