So, the Rams made it through the tough part of their schedule 1-6 with several terrible efforts. We aren’t through to the halfway pole of the season yet, so no time for midseason reports, but let’s take a look at the Rams and the playoffs. (Playoffs? We can’t even win a friggin game!)
Ok, Jim Mora, bear me out for a few minutes here.
The Rams are 1-6 and the last NFC playoff spot is current at 4-3 in the place of the Chicago Bears. That leaves the Rams 3 games out of a tie for a playoff spot with 9 to go. Not horrendous in the Battle Royal NFC.
Let’s look at the upcoming month for the Rams and the other 4-3 NFC teams:
Rams – @ARZ, @CLE, SEA, ARZ
Bears – @PHI, DET, SD, @OAK
Bucs – @NO, HOU, @GB, @TEN
ATL – @IND, NO, TEN, MIN
Looking at these schedules, the Falcons are the only team that is really a lock to go 2-2 across this stretch. The Rams could gain 1 or 2 games over this stretch if they play similar to how they played against New Orleans. The Rams will define their season over their next 4 games. Either they are plucky underdogs that won’t quit or they have given up on the season. Which page with they choose?
The Rams are currently in last place in the NFC with the worst point differential in the NFC, but they aren’t out of the playoff race by a long shot. And that is the greatness of the NFL right there.
