The New England Patriots have mysteriously released veteran corner Leigh Bodden and with the Rams lack of depth in the secondary, they should absolutely go after Bodden. Whomever makes a claim to Bodden (and the Rams will be one of the first 3 teams to be able to make a claim) will have to pick up his approximately $2 million remaining on his contract this year.
Bodden is 6’1″ and almost 200 lbs, so he fits the Rams need for a bigger corner. By all metrics, he has had a good season, although he has been battling with injury. This season, Bodden has been thrown at 22 times and allowed 12 receptions and one touchdown. Those linked numbers are from Pro Football Focus who also had this to say on Twitter: “What?? By far their best cover CB this year”. So, he’s big and can cover. Check and check. The requirements to play on the Rams defense this year are pretty simple.
If Bodden makes it through waivers (which he probably will not), he would be an even better deal with the Patriots picking up his salary for the rest of the season.
