Rams right tackle Jason Smith was carted off the field and taken to a local hospital for observation after taking a blow to the head in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.
Smith was injured while attempting to pick up a fumble by running back Cadillac Williams.
Smith’s head made contact with the leg of Cowboys safety Abram Elam, who had recovered the fumble.
Smith waved a bit while being carted off, but head injuries have cropped up annually for the second overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. Smith missed the final six games of his rookie season with a concussion and missed a game last October after sustaining a concussion in practice.
