Source: Lions trade for Eagles RB Ronnie Brown

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Lions have acquired running back Ronnie Brown from the Eagles for a 2013 seventh-round pick and running back Jerome Harrison.

The No. 2 overall pick of 2005 from Auburn recorded 13 carries for 38 yards this season in Philadelphia.

With Jahvid Best suffering his second concussion of the season during last Sunday’s 25-19 loss to the 49ers, (also had one during training camp), and his status up in the air for Week seven’s contest against Atlanta, the move was an absolute no-brainer for the Lions’ GM Martin Mayhew.

Ever since second-round pick Mikel LeShoure tore his Achilles’ tendon back in August, the team has been in search for a powerful back to complement Jahvid.

Hopefully, Brown can do in Detroit what he couldn’t do during his short stay in Philly: convert third down/goal line opportunities.

Quick note: Other than Best’s 12 attempts on the ground against San Fran, journeyman Maurice Morris, who had five carries, was the only other running back to tote the rock.
