Hester sparks Bears in 39-10 rout of Vikings

Quick recap: The two fears coming into the game for the Bears: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and defensive end Jared Allen.  Both make an impact play (Peterson – TD run; Allen – strip sack), but other than that, the two stars were held in check.  Jay Cutler had time to complete a 48-yard touchdown pass to Devin Hester to start the scoring, something that would continue throughout the game. The play-action and deep route, which was ran to perfection, took some time and Cutler was able to get it off for the score.  The connection showed that the offensive line has the ability to protect #6 at times, now it’s just a matter of maintaining that consistency.

What a difference a week makes, what confidence makes, playing at home makes, and what Lance Louis makes.  Dane Sanzenbacher caught a bullet for Cutler’s other touchdown; a tough catch in traffic, something he and Jay made look easy.  Matt Forte had 23 touches and averaged over five yards per run for the third straight week.  Continue to give him the ball, early and often.  Rookie Stephen Paea registered his first pro sack in his NFL debut, a safety that made it 9-0 Bears.  Julius Peppers played with an injured MCL and still produced two sacks, chasing and pushing down McNabb on one occasion.  Inspiring effort from the most talented player on the roster.  Overall, eight tackles for loss (Peppers with 3, Idonije with 2) for a defense that played with motivation all night.  Now, let’s see if we can string together back-to-back victories against a tough NFC-South leading Bucs squad next week outside the States.

Quotes: “That was awesome,” Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher said. “We ran the ball, protected our quarterback, we made plays in the kicking game as usual, good team win.”

“We’re all kind of witnessing history every time he touches it,” Bears head coach Lovie Smith said.

Notes: The “Windy City Flyer” finished with 225 all-purpose yards (91 receiving), however, he left the game with a chest injury in the third quarter.  Also, tight end Kellen Davis (2-27) left in the third, as he re-aggravated his elbow injury.  All-Pro kicker Robbie Gould remained flawless on the season (13-for-13), including a season-long 51-yard field goal right before halftime to extend the lead to 26-3.  Cornerback Charles Tillman generated a team-high 11 tackles; ten of which were solo stops.

Next: 3-3 Bears vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London, Sunday October 23, NOON CT.
